The AKP finally abandoned the Constitutional amendment package process after President Sezer and opposition party CHP had filed several lawsuits against it. The amendment package will be re-discussed by the new Parliament after general elections held on July 22.

On the other hand, Turkey continues recording high FDI inflows (recent example being ING’s agreement to buy Oyakbank), ranking first in the world in terms of privatization’s earnings during the 2002-2006 period.

Markets are unusually calm despite uncertainties related to presidential election system, Turkish army’s possible entry to N. Iraq facing intensive PKK attacks and finally general elections with differing poles.
